Fatal Hit-And-Run Suspect Extradited From Israel To San Mateo County: Police

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A man accused of fleeing to Israel after a fatal 2017 hit-and-run in South San Francisco has been extradited to the United States to face charges, authorities announced.

The suspect, a 23-year-old San Francisco resident at the time of the crash, struck and killed a woman crossing El Camino Real on Nov. 11, 2017, before driving away, according to the South San Francisco Police Department. The victim later died at a hospital.

Police said the suspect fled the country just days after the collision. A felony warrant was issued for his arrest, but he remained at large for years until authorities recently located him in Israel.

The South San Francisco Police Department said the FBI, the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office and the U.S. Department of Justice's Office of International Affairs worked with Israel's Ministry of Justice and National Police to secure the suspect's arrest and extradition.

With assistance from the FBI, the suspect was returned to the United States on July 14, where he was booked into the San Mateo County jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.

Police did not immediately release the suspect's name. The investigation remains ongoing.
