Large Crane To Disrupt Bay Area Traffic For Municipal Pier Stabilization

The pier has been closed since cracks appeared in June 2026 and caused the demolition of a cafe.

PACIFICA, CA — Traffic in Pacifica will be disrupted for several days beginning Wednesday as a large crane is moved through town to help stabilize the damaged Municipal Pier, the city said.

Power Engineering Construction Co. of Alameda is building a pad for the pile-driving crane near Beach Boulevard and Santa Rosa Avenue.

The L-shaped, quarter-mile pier has been closed since cracks appeared in June 2026 and caused the demolition of a cafe.
While the city hasn't publicly specified the size of the crane, moving it into position, with its associated equipment, will take three to five days, the city said Thursday.

The effort will cause traffic delays and temporary detours. Parking will be affected along Montecito Avenue, Santa Rosa Avenue and in the City Council Chambers parking lot, the city said.

"These activities are temporary emergency measures intended to assist in stabilizing the pier, protecting public safety, and safeguarding Beach Boulevard and adjacent public infrastructure while the city evaluates longer-term repair options," according to the city statement.

The pier was built in 1973 and is a popular spot for fishing and crabbing.
