Truck Slams Commercial Building On PCH, Trapping Driver

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — A truck struck a commercial building in Pacific Palisades Thursday, trapping the driver for nearly two hours before firefighters freed him from the wreckage.
The crash was reported about 11:30 a.m. at 14830 W. Pacific Coast Highway, near Chautauqua Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Crews worked to free the driver, the truck's only occupant, for about one hour and 45 minutes, using heavy equipment and the Jaws of Life to cut their way into the truck's cab.

No one was inside the building when the truck struck it, according to LAFD spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.
Once the man was freed around 1:20 p.m., he gave a thumbs-up as he was taken by ambulance on a gurney, according to a broadcast report from the scene.

Los Angeles police and personnel from the city departments of Building and Safety and Transportation were summoned.
