SR-74 Repair Work After Rosa Fire: What Drivers Need To Know Week Of June 1

RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CA — California Department of Transportation crews will begin an emergency project on State Route 74 (SR-74) to repair damage that was caused by the Rosa Fire, weather permitting, on Monday, they announced.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, one-way traffic control will take place. "All work is weather-dependent," Caltrans said.

Drivers should expect delays, as flagging will be performed in both directions and may result in wait times of up to 20 minutes.

The route will be open to travelers without restrictions from 5:01 p.m. to 6:59 a.m., and fully open on weekends, they said.

Planned work includes pavement milling, resurfacing, and repaving of the eastbound and westbound lanes between Santa Rosa Drive (Postmile 75.3) and Palm Canyon Drive (Postmile 79.7) and installation of milepost markers, drainage milepost markers, delineators, and new signage along the highway.

Flaggers will be stationed to manage and alternate traffic flow, ensuring the safety of our crews and the traveling public.

"This schedule allows construction crews to safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment," a spokesperson said.

Please reduce your speed when near work areas for the safety of crews and other drivers on the route. Signage will be placed ahead to indicate approaching roadway work.

Motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling, as this remains an active construction zone.
