Felon Arrested After Accidentally Shooting Himself in Palm Springs: PD

The suspect was taken into custody after he left the hospital and booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A 32-year-old felon was arrested for possession of a firearm and ammunition after he accidentally shot himself in the hand in Palm Springs, police said.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. on Monday to a report of a gunshot victim at the Desert Regional Medical Center. Andrew Patrick Boylan told officers that his hand was injured while he was handling a revolver his friend brought to a residence in the 5300 block of Waverly Drive, said Capt. Gustavo Araiza of the Palm Springs Police Department.

Officers went to the residence and conducted a safety sweep where they discovered evidence "consistent with a firearm discharge." They also found ammunition, a rifle case containing a short-barreled AR-15-style rifle, and loaded extended-capacity magazines, police said.

Boylan was arrested Monday after he left the hospital and booked into the Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, possession of large-capacity magazines, possession of a short-barreled rifle and negligent discharge of a firearm, said Capt. Araiza.
