Palm Springs High School Placed On Temporary Lockdown After Bomb Threat

PALM SPRINGS, CA — Palm Springs High School was placed on a temporary lockdown Wednesday after the school received a bomb threat.

Officers arrived shortly before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday to the campus at 2401 E. Baristo Road, according to the Palm Springs Police Department. With assistance from an explosive-detection canine team, they conducted a thorough search of the campus and found "`no suspicious devices or other evidence of an immediate threat," police said.

School officials sent a message to parents early Wednesday afternoon regarding an unspecified threat and informed them that the facility's safety protocols were enacted while police officers swept the campus.

"Students and staff are safe, and the school is following our established safety procedures while law enforcement completes its investigation," the message said. "Out of an abundance of caution, we ask families not to come to campus at this time unless directed otherwise."

The lockdown was lifted after the campus was cleared.

The department said officers were working to identify the caller and the circumstances behind the threat.
