On Friday, September 11, 2026, Pasadena-based choral ensemble voices/LA invites members of the Glendale, Pasadena, and greater Los Angeles communities to gather for Silence into Song: 2,977 Voices Remembered. This free evening of remembrance and reflection marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks with a live performance of Mozart’s Requiem. Presented in partnership with Glendale First United Methodist Church (GFUMC), the concert aligns with GFUMC’s mission to serve Los Angeles as a sanctuary of radical welcome, healing mind, body, and spirit across diverse communities.
The concert is free and open to the public. This tribute is made possible through generous underwriting from donors and patrons from our community. Voluntary contributions will benefit the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter's Fund (www.wodff.org), providing vital assistance to the families of first responders.
The concert will begin at 8:00 p.m. on September 11 at 134 N. Kenwood Street in Glendale, offering community members a space for remembrance, reflection, and connection through music. Performed with full orchestra and four guest soloists, the program honors the 2,977 lives lost with Mozart's masterpiece alongside select works dedicated to memory, solidarity, and hope. This performance carries forward a global tradition born on the first anniversary of 9/11, when musicians worldwide staged a rolling performance of Mozart’s Requiem across time zones. Twenty-four years later, voices/LA renews that international legacy of healing through choral music.

Founded by John Sutton following a landmark holiday performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall, voices/LA is becoming one of Southern California's premier auditioned choral ensembles. As the Artistic Director of voices/LA, he has dedicated his career to fostering community through transformative musical performances that challenge, inspire, and heal. His extensive work with choral and orchestral ensembles throughout Southern California and across the globe has established him as a prominent force in the regional arts landscape of Los Angeles and Southern California.
