Unconscious Dog Saved From Pasadena House Fire

PASADENA, CA — An unconscious dog was rescued from a smoke-filled Pasadena home where a fire broke out in a bedroom, authorities said Thursday.

The fire was reported about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at 495 Michillinda Ave., according to Lisa Derderian, spokeswoman for the Pasadena Fire Department, which responded along with the units from the Arcadia and Sierra Madre fire departments.

Smoke was coming from the attic of the one-story home when crews arrived. Temperatures were about 102 degrees when they forced entry and encountered heavy smoke. The dog was found during a rapid search and the fire was contained to some contents in a rear bedroom and put out, Derderian said.

The unresponsive dog was resuscitated and was handed over to the homeowner when they arrived at the scene.

The pooch was taken to an animal care facility for follow-up but appeared alert and in good condition, according to Derderian.

Four people were displaced from the home, which sustained an estimated $100,000 in damage, but declined further assistance.
