Streets Lined With Eggs & Butter, Unlikely Art Gallery, Neon Chicks, No River Hootenany: How Petaluma Parties
Residents and visitors pack downtown for parade, art, and local pride. Just make sure to have a designated driver and look for detours.
PETALUMA, CA — On Saturday, the 43rd annual Butter & Egg Days Parade rolls through town under the theme “America’s Birthday – Petaluma Style,” marking the nation’s 250th anniversary while spotlighting the city’s agricultural roots and independent streak.
Organizers say the event channels Petaluma’s small-town identity with marching bands, floats, and community groups drawing thousands into the streets.
Merchants across downtown will offer discounts to visitors wearing a limited-edition commemorative button, sold at local shops including the Petaluma Market and the Petaluma Visitor’s Center. Event planners direct attendees to the official schedule and parade lineup at ButterAndEggDays.com.

The Rohnert Park-based painter and recent Sonoma State University graduate filled the second-floor space with layered imagery designed to invite personal interpretation and a sense of play.
Neon chicks
Meanwhile, preservation advocates scored a win as the Petaluma Signs Project reached its fundraising goal to restore a 91-year-old neon chick sign along Petaluma Boulevard.
The sign was removed and taken to Vallejo, where it will be restored. Katherine Rinehart, who has helped spearhead the campaign, is hoping to have a relighting ceremony in mid-June or early July. Finally, a good excuse for summer Peeps.
No Rivertown hootenanny under the stars
Not all local traditions will appear this year. The Friends of the Petaluma River announced it is pausing the Rivertown Revival festival in 2026. They offered no timeline for the return of the event or $5 weddings.
"Although we will miss you all terribly, as well as the felicity and frivolity that is Rivertown Revival, we have decided to take a pause in 2026," the Friends of the Petaluma River announced on the River Revival website. "We hope to be back in the near future and as a team we are continuing to support all of Friends of the Petaluma River’s other programming and events that continue to provide access and protection for our beautiful and mighty Slough." They left no word on the immediate future of $5 weddings.
Petaluma Police
Petaluma police, whose officers will be patrolling this weekend, sent a list of detours and closed roads, and said alcohol is permitted only in designated areas or licensed establishments. Open containers are not allowed, and restaurants cannot provide alcohol in “to-go” cups. Have a designated driver or rideshare service available.
