PLEASANTON, CA — The Pacific Pearl shopping center will host a free Mid-Autumn Moon Festival Saturday. The traditional Chinese holiday is held on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Chinese lunisolar calendar, around the time of the full moon. The festival centers around families gathering for a meal, admiring the moon, sharing mooncakes, and enjoying glowing paper lanterns.
The Pacific Pearl celebration will take place Saturday from 1-3 p.m. near the 85°C Bakery Cafe at 2725 Stoneridge Drive in Pleasanton. Visitors can enjoy a lion dance performance, martial arts demonstration, face painting, and balloon art.
Other Bay Area celebrations include the SF Chinatown Autumn Moon Festival from Sept. 19-20 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day and the Oakland Little Saigon Mid-Autumn Festival on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. at Clinton Park.
