What happens to a woman's story when she's gone?
It's a question Pleasanton portrait photographer Nina Pomeroy has been sitting with for a long time — thinking about her mother, her grandmother, her great-grandmother, and the stories that were never shared before those voices were gone.

This Women's History Month, she's doing something about it.
Pomeroy has launched Her Words, Her Light — a curated portrait and podcast series documenting the real stories of real women. Each participant is personally selected, photographed in Pomeroy's signature black-and-white cinematic style at her private Pleasanton studio, and interviewed for Visible Impact, a new podcast dedicated to the stories women are finally ready to tell.
"This is not a headshot," says Pomeroy. "This is a portrait of who you actually are — paired with your story, in your own words, preserved for the people who come after you."
Participation is by personal invitation and application, open to women of all ages and all walks of life. Portraits will be featured in an upcoming exhibition and online archive.
