2 New Wildfire Safety Cameras Go Live In North Redlands

REDLANDS, CA — Two new wildfire safety cameras have gone live in North Redlands as part of a city effort to improve early fire detection and monitoring along the Santa Ana River wash.

The City of Redlands partnered with the University of California San Diego's ALERTCalifornia program to install the high-tech cameras, designated as Redlands KREI 1 and Redlands KREI 2.

The new cameras expand the city's monitoring network, complementing two existing cameras—Sunset Redlands 1 and 2—that cover the southern portion of the city. Incorporating the technology is a key component of the city’s Community Wildfire Protection Plan, officials said.

To protect resident privacy, city officials said all camera feeds undergo a vetting process to establish permanently pixelated zones over private residential and commercial properties within their viewing range.

City officials urged residents to support wildfire safety efforts by maintaining defensible space around their homes and participating in local readiness programs.
