136 Citations Issued In One Single Day In SMC Traffic Enforcement Blitz: Police
Speeding accounted for the largest share of violations during the countywide enforcement operation, police said.
SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Fifteen law enforcement officers from agencies across San Mateo County fanned out across Woodside and local freeways Tuesday, making roughly 139 traffic stops and issuing 136 citations, police said.
The operation was the fifth Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program deployment of 2026, a coordinated effort among local police departments, the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, and the California Highway Patrol to crack down on dangerous driving in areas known for traffic problems.
Speeding dominated the citation totals, with 54 tickets issued for unsafe speed. Distracted driving came in second — 30 drivers were cited for using a phone behind the wheel. The remaining citations covered a range of violations: 20 for miscellaneous infractions, four each for failure to stop at a stop sign, seatbelt or car seat violations, and unlicensed drivers, and one for failure to obey a traffic control device.
