Driver Killed After Car Slams Into Underpass Walls In South Bay: Police

The man was found unconscious inside a sedan following the late-night solo crash, police said.

PALO ALTO, CA — A man died after his car crashed into the walls of an underpass in Palo Alto late Sunday night, police said.

The solo-vehicle crash was reported around 11:50 p.m. in the Alma Street underpass on Oregon Expressway, according to the Palo Alto Police Department.

Officers found a man in his 50s unconscious inside a sedan. Emergency crews extricated him from the vehicle, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Investigators believed the sedan was traveling west on Oregon Expressway when it struck the walls of the underpass.

Police said it was not yet known whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash.
