Police Intercept $14.5K Cash Scam In SMC: Police
A Connecticut woman was tricked into mailing thousands of dollars to a vacant California home.
FOSTER CITY, CA — Officers recovered $14,500 in cash which an older woman in Connecticut was scammed into mailing to a vacant house in Foster City, police announced Wednesday.
The Foster City Police Department launched an investigation after receiving a call about the scam.
“No legitimate government agency will ever ask you to send cash, gift cards, or cryptocurrency as a form of payment," police said. "If someone contacts you requesting in-person payment or asks you to mail money, it is a scam."

Officers intercepted the package containing the cash and identified a suspect in the scam.
The full amount was accounted for and has since been returned to the rightful owner.
