Stalker Made Hundreds Of Calls, Repeated Visits To Woman's Home In Redwood City Before Arrest: Police

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A Redwood City man was arrested Monday after police said he repeatedly violated a domestic violence restraining order, including making hundreds of calls to a former dating partner and returning to her home.

Rudy Fidel Avila Naranjo, 34, was arrested around 3:55 a.m. Monday on the 200 block of Lincoln Avenue, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

Police said the investigation began earlier this month after officers responded several times to reports that Naranjo was violating the restraining order.

On Sept. 5, investigators said Naranjo was seen repeatedly driving near the victim's home and called her more than 75 times that day.

Officers found him driving in the area, but police said he fled at a high rate of speed when officers attempted to speak with him. The department's Drone as First Responder unit later located his vehicle.

Police said Naranjo then tried to flee on foot but was arrested and booked on suspicion of stalking and violating a restraining order.

He was released on bond during the early morning hours of Sept. 6.

By about 3:30 p.m. that same day, investigators learned that Naranjo had made more than 400 additional calls to the victim and had again gone to her home, according to police.

As the investigation continued, detectives also learned of reports involving prior sexual assaults, criminal threats and an unlawful entry into the victim's residence. Police said those matters remain under investigation.

On Monday, investigators learned Naranjo had returned to the victim's home again in violation of the restraining order.

Naranjo was stopped and taken into custody without incident, police said.

During a search of his car, officers found an unserialized handgun and ammunition, according to the department.

Naranjo was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility on suspicion of stalking, violating a restraining order, possessing a concealed firearm and committing a new felony while released on bail, police said.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police said additional charges may be sought as detectives continue reviewing the earlier reported incidents.
