9-Year-Old Boy Hit By Car, Seriously Injured In Sonoma County Crosswalk: Police

Investigators were working to determine the car's speed and whether the crosswalk lights were activated when the child was struck.

SANTA ROSA, CA — A 9-year-old boy suffered significant injuries after he was struck by a Ford Mustang while crossing a Santa Rosa street Tuesday night, police said.

The crash was reported around 8:28 p.m. on the 900 block of Yulupa Avenue, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.

Investigators believed the boy was in a marked crosswalk when a white Ford Mustang traveling south on Yulupa Avenue struck him, police said.

The child was taken by ambulance to a regional trauma center.

The Mustang was driven by a 41-year-old Santa Rosa man who remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, police said.

Alcohol and drugs were not believed to have played a role in the crash. Investigators were working to determine the Mustang's speed and whether the crosswalk lights were activated when the boy was struck.

The crash remained under investigation.
