Shooting Follows Cinco Mayo Festival
Police investigate parking lot confrontation that escalated into gunfire near during Cinco de Mayo festivities.
SONOMA COUNTY, CA — Gunfire cracked through the edge of a crowded Cinco de Mayo celebration in Santa Rosa Monday night, turning a festival assignment into a life-or-death emergency when a man who had been shot ran toward police officers.
On Wednesday, Santa Rosa police stationed near Sebastopol Road and Avalon Avenue heard multiple shots at about 8:30 p.m. coming from just outside the festival area near Dutton Avenue, Sgt. Patricia Seffens said.
Moments later, a man with a gunshot wound ran to the officers. Seffens today said in a press release that the man's injuries life-threatening, but that he is in stable condition.

Seffens said the shooting happened in a parking lot in the 400 block of Sebastopol Road after an altercation broke out. According to Seffens, the suspect drew a firearm and fired several rounds, striking the victim at least once before running from the area. He remains at large.

A reward of up to $2,500 is being offered through the Sonoma County Alliance Community Engagement and Safety Rewards Fund for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects.
