Tiny Cries Spark Unusual Storm Drain Rescue In Rohnert Park

ROHNERT PARK-COTATI, CA — A call about a handful of stranded baby quail turned into a successful wildlife rescue after a Rohnert Park public safety officer and neighbors saved the tiny birds from a storm drain.

Rohnert Park Officer Grey responded over the weekend to Holly Avenue after receiving a report that several baby quail had fallen into a storm drain, according to the Department of Public Safety.

Using patience and specialized equipment, Officer Grey, with assistance from neighbors, retrieved each bird from the drain.

The rescued birds were then returned to their nest. All the chicks survived the ordeal, the department said.

The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety provides animal control services and regularly respond to calls involving injured, trapped, or endangered animals.

The department thanked the residents who stopped to help with the rescue, saying neighbors played an important role in the rescue.
