Network Failure Knocks Out DMV Services

CALIFORNIA — A Department of Motor Vehicles network failure shut down key systems across California, leaving workers unable to process some of the agency's most in-demand services Tuesday.

DMV officials called the network outage “unexpected" in response to social media posts, according to reports.

Shortly before 3:45 p.m., the agency said they had resolved the problem, according to news reports.

DMV officials said the outage affected their ability to process driver’s licenses and identification cards.

The offices remained open during the outage as technicians worked to restore the system.

“Our team members are assisting customers with forms, online transactions, and drive tests,” the agency said in a statement. “We are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.”

Officials did not immediately say what caused the disruption or how many offices the outage affected.
