Since 1922, the <a href="https://www.coronadoflowershow.com/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Coronado Flower Show</a> has invited neighbors and flower fans to gather “beneath the tent” to celebrate beauty, community, and heritage. Now in its 104th year, the festival takes place April 18-19; this year’s theme is “Welcome to the Jungle.” Organized by the <a href="https://www.coronadoflowershow.com/about-us" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Coronado Floral Association</a> (CFA), the two-day festival is the largest tented flower show in the U.S. and Coronado’s longest running tradition.
This year, the Association invites every visitor, exhibitor, volunteer, and gardener to wander into a wild and lush world where together the delicate and the bold, the native and the exotic, the sculptural and the wild promise:

 <li>Immersive installations, inspired by the forest canopy, understory, and hidden glades.</li>
 <li>Botanical theatrics, featuring dramatic textures, tropical foliage, layered compositions, and surprise vignettes.</li>

Beginning spoon carving. In this introduction course of carving Woodworker Paul Maschka will be sharing the ancient style of green wood hand carving with simple but very precise hand tools–a small carving axe, straight blade carving knife and a curved hook knife. With proper techniques, green wood can be intricately sculpted into extremely beautiful, functional and unique pieces of art. Paul specializes in Viking-era cutlery. This Scandinavian style is still being crafted around the world. In this workshop, students will be creating a straight tea spoon or straight cooking spoon.
This class is designed for the beginner as well as more experienced carvers. There is no prerequisite for this class.
All of the necessary tools and materials will be available to students for this class. Tools and chopping blocks will be available for purchase after the class.
No experience necessary. Ages 18+ welcome, or 14+ years with an accompanying adult!
