Domestic Violence Suspect Arrested After Barricading Himself In Valley Center Portable Toilet

VALLEY CENTER, CA — A domestic violence suspect was arrested Monday after a two-hour-long standoff with deputies in North County, authorities said.

David Valencia, 44, was taken into custody shortly after 12:30 p.m. after deputies responded to a domestic violence call around 10:30 a.m. in the 14100 block of Hilldale Road in Valley Center, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies found a woman with a non-life-threatening stab wound, sheriff's officials said. Valencia fled the scene and barricaded himself inside a portable restroom on a neighboring property.

Valencia told deputies he had a firearm and refused to surrender, prompting deputies to negotiate with him. The Sheriff's Special Enforcement Detail, including SWAT personnel, and Crisis Negotiation Team were called to the scene after initial negotiations were unsuccessful.

Valencia was taken into custody with assistance from a sheriff's K-9, officials said. He was taken to a hospital for treatment and is expected to be booked into the Vista Detention Facility on felony assault charges.

Valencia's arrest prompted a temporary secure campus status at Valley Center High School and nearby schools as a precaution. Students and staff remained indoors with classroom doors locked while the standoff was underway.
