SAN FRANCISCO, CA — One person was taken to a hospital for smoke inhalation after San Francisco firefighters battled an e-bike battery fire in a Mission District apartment building on Saturday night.
The fire was reported at 8:44 p.m. on the third floor of 1855 15th St., fire Rescue Capt. Samuel Menchaca said. The structure is the Mission Dolores apartments for seniors and people with disabilities.
Two people declined medical treatment and one was displaced by the blaze.

The source of the fire was a lithium-ion battery, Menchaca said. The batteries can malfunction and cause intense heat leading to fire.
San Francisco Supervisor Bilal Mahmood introduced legislation last month to prohibit the sale of uncertified lithium-ion batteries, which have been blamed for causing numerous fires in the city.
