Earthquake Strikes Near San Francisco Zoo
All three quakes occurred two miles south-southwest of the zoo, according to the USGS.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA ā An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 3.0 struck near the San Francisco Zoo at 4:39 p.m. Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
It was followed by aftershocks of 2.0 magnitude at 4:40 p.m. and 2.7 magnitude at 4:41 p.m., the USGS said.
All three quakes occurred two miles south-southwest of the zoo. The initial temblor was measured at a depth of 4.3 miles. The first aftershock was at 4.1miles deep; the second was at 4.3 miles.

The closer to the surface an earthquake starts, the more ground shaking and potential damage it will cause. People typically report feeling earthquakes larger than about magnitude 2.5, according to the USGS.
