Large Earthquake Swarm Rattles Northern California Coast
A series of quakes, including magnitudes 5.7, 5.1 and 4.5, struck offshore near the Eureka area Wednesday morning.
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — Several large earthquakes struck different parts of Northern California Wednesday morning, according to the United States Geological Survey.
The largest was a 5.7-magnitude quake that struck at 3:53 a.m. about 95 miles off the coast of the California-Oregon border. Despite its large magnitude, it was barely felt.
That was less true for a 5.1 quake that struck at 5:45 a.m. about 40 miles to the west of the Eureka coast. Several people nearby reported light shaking, according to USGS's "Did You Feel It?" map.

The quake was part of a swarm that also included a 4.5 that struck at 6:11 a.m., a 2.8 that struck at 8:05 a.m., and a 3.9 that struck at 8:51 a.m.
On Tuesday at 9:44 a.m., a 3.6 quake struck near Cloverdale, which many residents reported feeling strongly on Nextdoor.
