Embattled SF Burger Joint Closes After Less Than A Year: Report
A photo posted online in March of raw beef sitting outside the restaurant drew controversy.
SAN FRANCISCO, CA — An embattled San Francisco burger spot has closed its doors just weeks after a viral photo of raw meat outside the local drew controversy, according to a report from Eater.
Hamburger Project along Guerrero Street served its last smash burger on Sunday, April 19, with co-owner Tan Truong telling Eater that the location wasn't getting the necessary traction. The location was open for less than a year.
The closure comes just weeks after the controversial photo of the raw beef and a large jar of mayonnaise was posted on Reddit.

Truong addressed the photo soon after, saying that the delivery driver didn't have time to wait for someone to arrive and decided to leave the product on the floor.
Truong added that the product was thrown away and that they had already addressed the problem with the delivery company to ensure it would never happen again.

"It’s a horrible image to have ground beef sitting on the sidewalk, but we have protocols against using products like that, and we definitely do not condone leaving it outside like that," Truong told the Chronicle at the time.
The original Hamburger Project at Divisadero Street remains open, according to Eater.
