Bookstore Giant Closing One If Its Last Bay Area Locations

The store's final day open will be May 2.

SAN BRUNO, CA — Barnes & Noble's San Bruno location — one of just a few remaining in the Bay Area — will be closing in May, store officials said.

The announcement was made in late February, with store officials saying the shop's lease had ended and they'd be closing in May. The store's last day open will be May 2.

The San Bruno was open for 20 years. While two nearby Barnes & Noble stores remain in San Mateo and Burlingame, the closure marks a hit for a company that has seen a resurgence in recent years.

The company opened several new stores across the United States and bought Books Inc. — an independently owned bookseller — in 2005.

It's unclear whether there are plans to look for a new site in San Bruno or another Bay Area city. A handful of Barnes & Noble stores remain in the Bay Area, including in East Bay cities such as Emeryville and Walnut Creek.
