ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA — Detectives seized 546 pounds of commercial-grade fireworks in unincorporated San Leandro, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office said.

The fireworks were found Friday while searching the residence of a wanted felon, who was taken into custody assisted by California parole agents, the Sheriff's Office said.

The felon was arrested for possession of illegal fireworks and a parole violation and was booked into the Santa Rita Jail.

The Sheriff's Office Explosive Ordnance Disposal team took custody of the fireworks for destruction.

The Alameda County Board of Supervisors recently adopted a new ordinance aimed at curbing illegal fireworks in unincorporated parts of the county.

The ordinance, which will take effect on July 2, just two days before the Fourth of July holiday, expands liability beyond users to property owners and authorizes fines of up to $1,000 for repeat violations.
