Gunfire In Oakland Neighborhood Leads To Arrest, Two Guns Seized: Police

OAKLAND, CA — Police are praising community members after a tip led officers to the arrest of a suspect firing at least one gun in East Oakland last week.

Gunfire erupted in the 1000 block of 44th Street in East Oakland around 12:45 p.m. on Aug. 6, according to the Oakland Police Department.

Officers received reports from neighbors about the gunfire and quickly responded to the scene, where they saw a pickup truck backing out of a driveway, police said.

The officers pulled the driver over and searched his car, police said.

A black handgun was found in the front center console and a rifle in the back, police said.

The suspect was taken into custody, although police did not say what they were booked on suspicion of. The suspect's identity was not released.
