'Para Toda La Comunidad': Cinco De Mayo Celebration Returns To San Leandro Friday

SAN LEANDRO, CA — The sound of strumming guitars, trumpets and the stomps of Mexican dancers will fill the Marina Community Center in San Leandro on Friday during the city's Cinco De Mayo celebration.
Featuring live performances from Mariachi Magda Vázquez and Ballet Folklórico Costa de Oro, the event is an opportunity for San Leandro's diverse community, highlighting local youth and talent while increasing awareness of the City’s Recreation programs and services, city officials said.
City officials say doors to the event will open at 5:30 p.m. It will be free, with many activities for children and light refreshments.

Cinco de Mayo is a commemoration of the Mexican Army's victory over the French during the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. It is sometimes confused with Mexican Independence Day, which takes place in September.
