Cruise Night Could Snarl Traffic In San Mateo: Police

SAN MATEO, CA — Hundreds of cars could crowd El Camino in San Mateo Saturday evening for Cruise Night, potentially causing traffic delays along the busy corridor, police said.

The event is scheduled from 6 to 11 p.m. on Saturday with vehicles expected to cruise repeatedly along El Camino from 3rd Avenue to Hillsdale Shopping Center, according to the San Mateo Police Department.

Drivers who are not participating in the event are encouraged to take an alternate route to avoid delays.

Police said officers will be out to help keep pedestrians, spectators, participants and other drivers safe. Spectators are expected to remain on sidewalks, use crosswalks, avoid littering and respect private property.

Participants are prohibited from burnouts, doughnuts, speeding, reckless driving, impaired driving and other dangerous maneuvers.

“Let’s all do our part and work together to ensure this event is a safe and orderly one,” police said.

Police also warned spectators against public intoxication and reminded them that Borel Shopping Center is private property and may enforce its own rules.
