The world comes down to one Saturday in Livermore. The International Championship goes at 1 PM, Puerto Rico against South Korea. The United States Championship goes at 5 PM, and it is all Tri-Valley: Granada Little League of Livermore against Bollinger Canyon of San Ramon, the fifth meeting of the summer with the series split two apiece. Both winners return Sunday for the World Championship.
Little League asks for good sportsmanship from everyone on the grounds, players, coaches, volunteers, and spectators alike. Cheer positively for every kid on the field, respect the umpires, and praise a good effort no matter the outcome. The players take a pledge that ends “win or lose I will always do my best.” The adults in the stands get to live up to it with them.
Good to know: baseline bleachers are reserved for players’ families, and everyone else will find bleachers and open space all the way around the outfield. Bring water, claim shade early, and thank a volunteer while you are there. The games stream on ESPN platforms, but they are better in person.
