SigAlert: 405 Freeway Crash Overturns Cars, Backs Up Traffic To 105

SANTA MONICA, CA — A multiple-vehicle rollover crash brought the northbound 405 Freeway to a standstill Thursday morning, overturning two vehicles and backing up traffic from West Los Angeles to the 105 Freeway.

The crash was reported at about 7:25 a.m. near Santa Monica Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Four people were freed from an overturned vehicle, according to the CHP. Five people were evaluated at the scene, but all declined transportation to a hospital and no serious injuries were reported.

Two vehicles ended up on their sides as a result of the crash.

The collision and emergency response initially shut down all northbound lanes of the 405. Three lanes reopened at about 8 a.m., but by then traffic had backed up south to the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway.

KTLA's Sky5 was over the scene around 8 a.m., showing the overturned vehicles and a large emergency response as motorists caught in the growing backup attempted to exit the freeway.

A SigAlert was issued shortly after 8 a.m. for the closure of lanes 4, 5 and 6 near Santa Monica Boulevard, KTLA reported. The alert was later extended for lanes 5 and 6.

CHP subsequently reported that three right lanes would remain closed for a brief period as crews continued working at the scene. The cause of the crash was not immediately known.
