Woman Killed After Crawling Under Stopped Metro Bus In Santa Monica: Police

Police say the woman was under a stopped bus that struck her as it pulled away at Main Street and Ocean Park Boulevard.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A pedestrian was killed Friday afternoon after crawling under a Metro bus that then struck her as it pulled away from a stop in Santa Monica, police said.

The Santa Monica Police Department said officers and fire personnel responded at about 2 p.m. on Friday to Main Street and Ocean Park Boulevard, where an adult woman was found with fatal injuries after a collision involving a Metro bus. She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from the police department.

Investigators reviewed surveillance video from a nearby business, which showed the bus was stopped when the woman crawled underneath it. As the bus began to pull away, she was hit, according to police.

The name of the woman has not yet been released.

The bus operator remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said there is no indication of impairment or distraction by the driver, police said.

The Santa Monica Police Department closed portions of Main Street during the investigation and urged motorists to avoid the area Friday afternoon.
