Man Found Critically Injured Near Sonoma Plaza

Police seek witnesses after an unconscious man suffered serious head trauma near the Plaza fountain.

SONOMA VALLEY, CA — A man remained in critical condition Monday after emergency crews found him unconscious with significant head trauma near the fountain in Sonoma Plaza Park.

The Sonoma Valley Fire Department and Sonoma Police Department responded to the area near First Street East around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday. Fire department paramedics immediately transported the man to an area trauma center.

Sonoma police and Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office detectives are investigating what caused the man’s injuries.

Investigators believe several people witnessed the man’s injuries but left before police and firefighters arrived. Police asked anyone who saw or heard anything near First Street East and the fountain between 9:55 p.m. and 10:35 p.m. to contact law enforcement.

Authorities said the incident poses no ongoing safety risk. Police are withholding the man’s identity until they can reach his family.
