Watch: Bystander, Sheriff's Helicopter Help Rescue Stranded Hood Mountain Cyclist

SONOMA COUNTY, CA — A Sonoma County helicopter crew rescued an injured cyclist Sunday afternoon after a crash at Hood Mountain Regional Park left the rider unable to get out without help.

HENRY-1 helicopter responded with the Sonoma Valley Fire District at about 1:28 p.m. Sunday. The Santa Rosa Fire Department also assisted in the rescue.

Hood Mountain sits in eastern Sonoma County, between Santa Rosa and Sonoma Valley, near Kenwood.

The call came just as HENRY-1 returned to Sonoma County after helping the Marin County Fire Department search for an overturned kayak in Tomales Bay.

HENRY-1 arrived as the first unit in the area and located the injured cyclist, who had suffered a leg injury.

The crew configured the helicopter with a 100-foot longline and flew the flight officer to the cyclist.

With help from a bystander, the crew carried the cyclist to a nearby opening and secured the victim in a rescue device.

HENRY-1 crew then flew the cyclist by longline to a nearby parking lot, where they transferred him to a waiting Sonoma County Fire District ambulance for further care.
