Local businesses are the heart of our communities. Patch had a chance to talk with Eric Sorenson, Owner of The Fitness Tech.

Patch: Tell us a bit about your business:
Eric Sorenson: The Fitness Tech is a personal training gym is South San Francisco, CA. We help busy adults, ages 40 and up, get in the best shape of their lives even if they're in the worst shape of their lives.

We've been helping people for 16 years with no long-term contracts, no hidden fees, and a schedule that's built around your life, not ours.

Most importantly — we know you. Your name, your goals, what's working, what isn't. You're never just a face in a crowded room here.

Patch: How long have you been doing business in town?
Eric Sorenson: 16 years. Established in 2010.

Patch: What attracted you to the line of work you’re in, and how did you get started?
Eric Sorenson: I was a wrestler in high school and college, so fitness was ingrained in me. When I got out of college I was searching for a career I would enjoy, so I tried personal training. I liked helping people but was bored with the 1 on 1 training model and didn't love working for somebody else. I decided to try my own thing, and rented an old classroom in a closed down high school to start my first "gym".

Patch: What's the most common piece of advice you give to customers?
Eric Sorenson: Consistency in better than perfection. Keep showing up for yourself and good things happen.

Patch: What’s the most satisfying part of your job?
Eric Sorenson: When members of my gym share their wins with us. Sure, looking better is great, but getting off a medication, lowering your blood pressure, reversing diabetes, and gaining bone density is what really drives me.

Patch: How would you say your business or organization distinguishes itself from the others?
Eric Sorenson: We don't lock people into long term contracts or charge secret fees. You can schedule your workouts when they fit into your life - you're not locked into one time. Our members never fall off of our radar - we know you, your goals, what works and doesn't work for you. The focus is for you to show up and get better.

Patch: How can Patch readers learn more about your work and business?
