How To Honor Dr. Martin Luther King In Temecula This Month

Temecula invites residents to honor MLK Day with a Week of Service Jan. 19–23, featuring cleanups, donations and volunteering.

TEMECULA, CA — In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the city of Temecula is inviting residents to participate in a Week of Service, encouraging daily actions that support the community and reflect Dr. King’s legacy of service, compassion and unity.

The Week of Service runs from Monday, Jan. 19, through Friday, Jan. 23, with Temeculans encouraged to take part in simple ways to give back throughout the week.

The week begins Monday with Community Clean-Up Day. Residents are encouraged to visit a local park or walk through their neighborhoods to pick up trash and help create a cleaner, safer and more welcoming environment.

From Tuesday, Jan. 20, through Tuesday, Jan. 27, the city’s Homeless Outreach Team will host a donation drive to support people and families facing or in danger of homelessness.

Donations of essential items, including new socks, underwear and sweats in adult and child sizes, will be accepted at City Hall, 41000 Main St., during regular business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

On Wednesday, Jan. 21, residents can attend a Blood Drive and Emergency Training Day. Community members are invited to register for a Red Cross blood drive at TemeculaCA.gov/BloodDrive or sign up for emergency training classes such as CPR or first aid through the Community Services Department at this link.

Thursday, Jan. 22, is Clothing Donation Day. Residents are encouraged to donate gently worn clothing to local organizations, including Salvation Army, Goodwill, Savers and Angel View, to help meet community needs.

The week concludes Friday, Jan. 23, with Volunteer and Give Back Day. Residents are encouraged to review a list of local nonprofits and plan to volunteer and support causes important to them. A complete list of nonprofit organizations is available at TemeculaCA.gov/Volunteer.

City officials said the Week of Service is an opportunity for the community to honor Dr. King’s vision by turning service into action and making a lasting difference together.
