Lindsay Wildlife Returns East Bay To The Wild For July 4 Celebration

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — A 23-year-old bald eagle that survived a devastating fall from her nest, but never regained the ability to fly, will take center stage this Independence Day as Lindsay Wildlife Experience invites visitors to meet Atsá during special holiday programming celebrating July 4.

Lindsay Wildlife Experience will open with special holiday hours and exclusive Independence Day programming on Saturday, July 4, giving visitors a chance to meet Atsá, a resident bald eagle whose remarkable survival story has inspired guests for nearly a decade.

The event will feature educational programs, wildlife experiences, and a rare opportunity to get a closer look at Atsá while learning about bald eagles, rehabilitation, and conservation.

Atsá, a 23-year-old bald eagle, has lived at Lindsay Wildlife Experience since transferring from the World Bird Sanctuary in 2016. She arrived there after suffering a life-changing injury as a nestling in 2003.

A storm knocked her nest into a ravine when she was about 9 weeks old. Although her parents continued feeding her by dropping food into the ravine, rescuers could not safely reach her for several weeks.

During that time, her injured wing healed improperly, leaving her with permanent nerve damage that prevents her from flying.

Because she cannot survive in the wild, Atsá has spent nearly her entire life in professional care, where she now serves as an ambassador for wildlife education.

She enjoys splashing in her pond and eagerly looks forward to her favorite meal—salmon.

The Walnut Creek wildlife education and rehabilitation center will welcome visitors from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1931 First Ave. with activities celebrating Independence Day.
