CT To Deploy Highway Work-Zone Speed Cameras

Connecticut officials released an updated timeline for the automated enforcement program.

Connecticut transportation officials have released a timeline for the state's highway work-zone speed camera program.

The Department of Transportation's "Know the Zone: Automated Work Zone Speed Control Program" will launch June 1 with a monthlong warning period.

Full deployment will begin on July 6, and drivers can receive fines for violating work-zone speed limits.

Here's where work-zone speed cameras are located as of May 28:

  • Route 2 in Colchester — Pavement and roadside safety upgrades along 4.5 miles of Route 2.
  • I-95/Route 161 in East Lyme — Interchange safety improvements, ramp upgrades and bridge replacement project.
  • Route 2 Eastbound in Glastonbury — Lane continuity, restriping and bridge widening improvements.
  • I-95 in West Haven — Bridge replacements and highway widening near Exits 43 and 44.
  • Route 6 in Bolton — Maintenance activity along Route 6 eastbound and westbound between mile posts 76.0 and 83.2.

The cameras will capture images of vehicles traveling 10 miles per hour or more over the posted work zone speed limit. The vehicle's registered owner will receive a citation in the mail.

Written warnings will be issued for the first offense, and subsequent offenses within one year will receive a $75 fine.

Those traveling at 85 miles per hour will receive a $75 fine regardless of first or subsequent offense status.

According to the state, enforcement will only occur when active work is taking place within designated work zones.
