Homicide On Main Street Probed, Police Say

WILLIMANTIC, CT — Police said they are investigating a Sunday morning homicide.

At 1:45 a.m., police responded to a Main Street apartment building for a reported shooting victim.

Police found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Police performed life-saving efforts until the local fire/EMS arrived.

"Despite the exhausted efforts of all first responders involved, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene," police said.

Preliminary investigative findings indicate that a confrontation occurred inside the apartment between a suspect and the victim, police said. During the altercation, the suspect produced a pistol and shot the victim before fleeing, police added.

The investigation is ongoing. The victim ID has not yet been released.
