Medical Examiner Positively IDs 3rd Body Found In Burlington Home

BURLINGTON, CT — The state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has positively identified the third person whose body was found in a local home in June - though exactly what happened to the family is still unknown.

A spokesperson said Friday the third person is one of the homeowners, Paul Cash.

Previously, officials identified the two other people as Sally Ann Cash and Brian Cash.

All three family members were found deceased in the home in June.

The cause and manner of their deaths remains undetermined, the office said Friday. The “markedly decomposed” condition of their bodies has been a factor in officials’ efforts to determine what happened.

Foul play and carbon monoxide poisoning have both been ruled out, the spokesperson said Friday.

The office said malnutrition or hypothermia from cold exposure could have been factors in the deaths.

Town records show the property’s most recent owners had been Paul and Sally Cash.

The family’s skeletal remains were found in their house at 7 Stanwich Lane on June 14, according to state police.

A new homebuyer, who had purchased the structure “as is” at a foreclosure auction, found the remains, state police said.

State police previously have said they do not suspect foul play. On Friday, state police said their investigation remains “active and ongoing.”

The Cash family had purchased the property in 2019, town records show.

A mortgage foreclosure action had been initiated against them in August 2025, according to state Judicial Branch records, and the family failed to appear during the proceedings, court records show.
