Missing 71-Year-Old Bristol Man Found Safe: Police

BRISTOL, CT — A local man who had been missing since early this week has been found safe, police announced late Friday.

A Good Samaritan saw Robert Harper, 71, walking along the roadside in the general vicinity of his home, according to police.

“We want to thank the community for their involvement and assistance in this matter,” police said, in their Facebook announcement.

A silver alert had been issued for Harper after he disappeared early Monday. Police said he had voluntarily left his home on O'Sullivan Drive, on foot on Aug. 10 around 6:30 a.m.

Harper left his cellphone behind. Police used bloodhound tracking teams and drones in their efforts to find Harper this week.

Liza Boucher, a Bristol resident, posted on Facebook: “BEST NEWS FOR HIS WIFE & EVERYONE LOOKING FOR HIM. I found him very lethargic on the side of Camp Street walking. I stopped & called the police right away. I'm so happy he's alive.”

According to Boucher, Harper spoke to officers and gave his name.

“I just want to let everybody know that he is alive and safe,” she said.

Harper was brought for a medical evaluation. Aside from announcing that Harper is safe, police did not release details about his condition.
