Popular CT Television News Reporter Signs Off

Amanda Callahan, a reporter for WFSB-TV since August 2024, signed off from the Rocky Hill-based station last week for a move to Boston, she announced.

Callahan is joining WBZ/CBS News Boston at the end of the month, and will move back to her home state.

"Thank you to everyone who’s helped me along the way and made this Boston girl feel at home in Connecticut…but after countless miles driving the Mass Pike to see family and friends I’m ready to save on gas," Callahan wrote on Facebook.

She said she'll miss Connecticut, which she called home for six years while holding jobs in Springfield, MA and then at Channel 3.

"When I moved out here in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic I couldn’t have imagined the journey that would unfold," Callahan wrote. "From starting behind the scenes in western Mass. to waking up dark and early everyday to anchor the weekday morning news in Springfield, then becoming a night owl getting the chance to tell stories all across Connecticut every night on WFSB.

Before joining WFSB, Callahan was a morning anchor at sister station WGGB, and between the two she's worn several hats, logging time a multimedia journalist, anchor, reporter and content producer.

"I am so grateful to every person who has trusted me to tell their stories whether it was on their best or worst day," Callahan wrote. "I met so many incredible people along the way, visited some beautiful parts of the state I never knew existed, and had the chance to try out some things I never would’ve imagined I’d do, especially on live TV (i.e. milking a cow)."

A Boston College grad, Callahan clearly made an impression in Connecticut, where well-wishes poured in following her announcement.

"You were such a joy to work with, you know how I feel about you — and I am so happy for this new chapter!!" wrote former colleague Mark Zinni.

"Wishing you well and continued success in your career," a fan wrote.

Another added, "Good luck in your new journey, you are an excellent reporter & have a great future ahead of you. Besides, there is nothing like going home!"
