Avon FD Hosting Open House This Weekend
Avon Volunteer Fire Department will host family-friendly firehouse tours, truck displays, fire hose activities, and hot dogs.
AVON, CT — Avon residents can get a behind-the-scenes look at their local fire department — and even try handling a fire hose — during an open house Saturday.
The Avon Volunteer Fire Department will host the family-friendly open house Saturday, Aug. 29, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Company 4 firehouse, 365 Huckleberry Hill Road.
The open house is designed to introduce residents to the department and give those interested in becoming volunteer firefighters an opportunity to learn more about what the job involves.

Visitors can meet Avon volunteer firefighters, tour the firehouse, and see the department's fire trucks and other apparatus up close.
Attendees will also have an opportunity to try using a fire hose.

The department said activities are planned for people of all ages, and grilled hot dogs will be available.
