Avon Library To Showcase 12 Local Authors This Week And Next

AVON, CT — Avon Free Public Library will showcase a dozen local authors during two events this month, including an evening devoted to mystery writers.

Both events will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the library, 281 Country Club Road.

The first event, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 11, will feature six authors whose books span mysteries, poetry, historical fiction and memoir.

Lucy Burdette will discuss "A Delicious Deception," the 16th installment of her Key West food critic mystery series. The story follows a nine-months-pregnant Hayley Snow as she becomes involved in the disappearance of a young girl.

Shawn Elizabeth George will present "A Sacred Place," a collection of 37 poems inspired by time spent on Ireland's Dingle Peninsula.

Samantha Keller is the author of "The Light Remains," a coming-of-age story set in South Africa during apartheid that explores family loyalty, independence, and conflicts between duty and personal desires.

Christine Falcone will present "Ruff'd Out," the fourth book in the Melanie Bass Mystery Series. The Connecticut shoreline-set story follows visiting nurse Melanie Bass as she encounters stolen pets, violent attacks and family difficulties.

Rick Stockwell will discuss "The Wall," while Wendy Swift will present "A Dream Life," a memoir about the challenges families can face involving addiction, incarceration and financial hardship.

The library's second event, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 18, will feature six mystery authors.

Sarah P. Blanchard will present "Grabtown," a story involving siblings, a 40-year-old unsolved murder and their family's history.

Penny Goetjen will discuss "Deadly Ripples," a Charleston-set mystery about a woman investigating the suspicious death of her uncle.

Nikki Knight will present "Live, Local, and Long Dead," which follows Vermont radio DJ Jaye Jordan after two bodies are discovered in a park, drawing her into investigations involving both a cold case and a recent killing.

Korina Moss will discuss "Cheddar off Dead," a culinary mystery about cheesemonger Willa Bauer's attempt to determine who framed her for the murder of a local food critic.

Jennifer Schiff will present "An Obsession with Murder," a Connecticut mystery about a librarian investigating the murder of her therapist.

Carole Shmurak will discuss "Buried Under Books," the fifth installment in a series featuring Susan Lombardi. The story centers on the disappearance of the leader of a library book group.
