FEMA To Discuss Flooding Along Farmington River Next Week

AVON, CT — Avon-area residents will have an opportunity next week to review revised flood maps and speak directly with federal, state and local officials about potential flood risks to their properties.

A FEMA Flood Risk Open House will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Avon Free Public Library, 281 Country Club Road.

Towns along the Farmington River are:

• Avon
• Barkhamsted
• Bloomfield
• Burlington
• Canton (including the village of Collinsville)
• East Granby
• Farmington (including Unionville)
• Granby
• Hartland
• New Hartford (home to Satan's Kingdom)
• Simsbury (including Tariffville)
• Windsor

The event is part of the Hartford County Farmington Watershed Floodplain Mapping Study.

Representatives from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and state and local governments will be available to review revised flood maps with attendees and answer questions.

There will be no formal presentation, meaning residents can arrive at any point during the three-hour open house.

The event is free and open to the public.

The open-house format will allow property owners to examine the revised mapping and ask officials questions about how the updated flood information may relate to their properties.
