Remote Brush Fire In Avon Has Firefighters Sounding The Alarm

AVON, CT — Local firefighters recently had to use their legs only to reach a pesky blaze deep into the woods of Avon.

And, because of that, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department on Wednesday sounded the alarm on the high brush fire danger locally.

The AVFD responded Friday evening to a reported campfire in the woods behind the former Huckleberry Hill Elementary School, officials said.

Because of the fire’s location, firefighters hiked into the wooded area carrying Indian packs and hand tools to extinguish the flames, the department said in a statement.

The fire was fully put out without reported injuries.

Fire officials warned that, despite recent light rainfall, conditions in the area remain very dry and the fire danger is great.

“Even small fires can spread quickly and become dangerous,” the department said, urging residents to take precautions to protect local woods and the broader community.
