Former Bethel Bank Building To Get New Tenant

The former Wells Fargo building at the Big Y shopping center is getting a new tenant after town approval this week.

BETHEL, CT — A new veterinary urgent care clinic is coming to Bethel after the Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans to convert the former Wells Fargo building at the Big Y shopping center.

HarperCare PLLC received approval to open the facility at 81 Stony Hill Road, where it plans to provide walk-in urgent veterinary care for pets. The proposal was considered through the town's special permit process for an animal hospital/veterinary office.

According to the application, the clinic will operate inside the existing commercial building and include examination rooms, treatment space and other medical services.

No new site disturbance is proposed, and the business will use the site's existing parking, public water and sewer infrastructure.

The applicant said the facility is intended to fill a gap in local veterinary care by providing a walk-in urgent care option for pet owners who cannot see their regular veterinarian and would otherwise need to travel farther for treatment.

The practice is affiliated with an existing Bethel veterinary business seeking to expand its services.

Plans do not include outdoor runs or play areas. Animals will only be taken outside for brief, supervised bathroom breaks in a designated area, according to the application.

An opening date has not yet been announced.
