Woodbridge Sergeant Michael Blume Named 2026 Police Officer Of The Year

WOODBRIDGE, CT — Woodbridge Police Sgt. Michael Blume has been named the town’s 2026 Police Officer of the Year and will be honored at the Amity Chamber of Commerce Community Awards and Annual Meeting.

Blume was chosen by the Woodbridge Police Department’s leadership team, according to the Amity Chamber of Commerce. He will receive the award Sept. 17 at the Courtyard by Marriott, 136 Marsh Hill Road, in Orange.

Woodbridge Police Chief Ronald E. Smith will present the award. Members of the department, local officials, chamber members, family, friends and the public are expected to attend, according to the release.

Blume has served with the Woodbridge Police Department for 24 years. He has worked as a patrol officer, narcotics investigator, patrol supervisor and administrative sergeant.

As administrative sergeant, Blume oversees the department’s Training Unit and coordinates training and certification requirements for department personnel. He is also a department instructor and is certified to train officers in use of force and body-worn camera operations.

Blume is also a member of the Woodbridge Police Department Bicycle Unit, participating in community events, patrol operations and other assignments involving bicycle deployment.

The release said Blume has been recognized for his actions during significant incidents. He received a Certificate of Commendation for helping bring an end to a police pursuit involving a report of an abduction. He has also received a Life Saving Award.

“Sergeant Blume’s career reflects a commitment to law enforcement, leadership, and service, as well as a willingness to step forward when his training, experience, and leadership are needed most,” Smith said.

The Amity Chamber Community Awards and Annual Meeting will include a hot buffet breakfast and networking with officials, business leaders and community leaders from the region. Doors open at 8:30 a.m., and the program begins at 9 a.m.

Tickets will not be available at the door, according to the release.
